Abstract: In Korean celebrity talk-show interactions, the identity of the host as a cultural mediator is embodied by the categorization practice through which the guest’s personal narrative is transformed into ‘normatively safe’ public discourse. This process is enhanced by the popular ‘many-to-one’ talk-show format providing for a methodic basis for the host-group members to collude among themselves against the guest, who is thereby positioned as an out-group member whose voice is obliquely suppressed.
