Abstract: The article proposes a short guide designed to facilitate the preparation of the first steps in the development of a research project in linguistics, either at the beginning of the doctorate or from the master level. The proposed set of questions may help to understand the main epistemological currents in language sciences and the importance of choosing the study corpus. The article draws attention to the most well-known advantages and disadvantages associated with the various validated ways of observing linguistic data, according to contemporary theoretical trends and cultural traditions.
